Frank van Velthoven is een componist, contrabassist en saxofonist. Hij heeft belangstelling voor alle muziek waarin geïmproviseerd kan worden en houdt net zoveel van grooven als van het zoeken naar spirituele betekenis; hemels en aards.
Hoewel hij geworteld is in de jazz-traditie, met de legendarische muzikanten van de moderne Jazz als zijn helden, heeft Frank zich ook ontwikkeld in ‘wereldmuziek’, met uitstapjes naar Latin-, Arabische- en Afrikaanse muziek.
Net zoals veel van zijn jazzhelden heeft hij zijn oor te luisteren gelegd bij klassieke en eigentijdse componisten en als gevolg daarvan een aantal stukken gecomponeerd die onder de noemer ‘kamermuziek’ vallen.
